World Jewry Cannot Become A Tool in the Hands of Anti-Armenian Propagandists

Rimma Varzhapetyan-Feller (*)

On the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide, when civilized humanity stands together with Armenia and the Armenian people, and honors the memory of one and a half million innocent victims, killed in the Ottoman Empire, Turkish-Azerbaijani propaganda has become more aggressive. Pursuing a goal to distract the attention of the international community and attract support from different Jewish community structures, targeted efforts have been exerted recently to cast a shadow on Armenian-Jewish relations through publications of ordered and one-sided articles in various media outlets. At the same time, one should mention that those attempts cannot but fail. The history of the two ancient peoples – Armenians and Jews – is full of similarities and mutual contacts, and, even with the utmost effort in the world, one can not derail those relations. Nevertheless, in the existence of a political agenda and irresponsible analysts – one cannot avoid comments based on void arguments, trying to prove the reverse.

ADL's Dubious Survey

Since its release earlier in May, the Anti-Defamation League's (ADL) preposterously named "The Global 100: An Index of Anti-Semitism" has drawn ridicule from a variety of sources for being unscientific and thus invalid.
The jazzy-sounding "Global 100", which claimed that more than a quarter of the world's population is anti-Semitic, has been found wanting in proper methodology and on political grounds. Among the critics are author Norman Finkelstein (a child of Holocaust survivors) and Amira Haas, a leading columnist of the Israeli "Haaretz" newspaper. It has been also criticized as skewed to portray and to enforce Zionist ideology and agenda. Least of the survey's problem is that by interviewing just over 50,000 adults (102 countries in 96 languages), it claims there are more than one billion anti-Semites among us.

Kerry Comes to Turkey With Rebuke of Its Leader Over Zionism Remark

Michael R. Gordon

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry chastised Turkey’s prime minister on Friday, March 1 for recently calling Zionism a “crime against humanity,” a comment that could frustrate Mr. Kerry’s desire to see an improvement in estranged Turkish-Israeli relations.
When Mr. Kerry set off on Sunday on a nine-nation trip, his plan was to use his visit in Turkey to consult on trade, the crisis in Syria and other Middle East issues.
But on Wednesday, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a United Nations forum in Vienna that the international community should consider Islamophobia a crime against humanity “like Zionism or anti-Semitism or fascism.”
