Armenian Diaspora Opinion Survey Results Published

The Armenian Diaspora Survey (ADS) published the results of a first ever survey, which provides a snapshot of the issues, attitudes and trends shaping the Armenian world in the 21^st century.
The 150-page Armenian Diaspora Opinion, Pilot Project 2018 includes six thematic chapters—on identity, language and culture, religion, community, politics and relations with Armenia—and the full results of the pilot survey conducted in May and June 2018 in Boston, Cairo, Marseilles and Pasadena. There are sections on research methodology, profiles of the communities in the four cities and the entire questionnaire. Published by the Armenian Institute in London, the report is available to the public (downloadable for free).

Society of Armenian Studies to Host Conference on ‘Armenians in America’

The Society for Armenian Studies has organized an international conference titled, ‘The Armenians in America,’ to take place on Nov. 17, in Boston.

The SAS organized conference will feature two panels beginning at 1 p.m. in Salon B of the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel. The conference is free and open to the public.

Book in time capsule is now seen as a call to remember

When the Old State House’s century-old time capsule was opened last fall, the red hardback book found inside, a routine government report, was dismissed as a mere space-filler.

Now it appears that the book’s curious inclusion was anything but an afterthought. With a corner carefully folded on a page that describes an attack against Armenians by Ottoman Turks, the volume is seen as delivering a message, a call to remember from the distant past.

It was an Armenian coppersmith, Moses Gulesian, who was commissioned in 1900 to replace the wood figures of a lion and unicorn on the east facade of the building. When his work was completed, he placed the time capsule — a copper box filled with letters, photographs, and newspaper articles from the time — inside the lion’s head.

AIWA Presents Newly Translated Books by Famed Author Zabel Yessayan

Zabel Yessayan is remembered as one of the most talented and prolific Western Armenian writers of the modern era. Yet, few of her works have been translated into Western languages, and even fewer into English. In order to introduce the English-language reader to the diverse output of this outstanding author, the Armenian International Women’s Association (AIWA) arranged the translation of select works and release two books of Yessayan’s writings at a Publication Party on Sunday, March 23, at the Armenian Cultural Foundation (ACF) in Arlington, Mass.
