Professor Jasmine Dum-Tragut from Salzburg University has recently informed that, starting from the academic year 2013-2014, the Center for the Studies of the Christian East in Salzburg
has been officially accepted and opened as University Research Center for the
Studies of the Christian East. The Department of Armenian Studies is now
officially part of Salzburg University and, for the first time in the
history of Austria, Armenian Studies becomes an accepted field of research and
studies.
The department is financially supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia and cooperates actively with the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Yerevan State University, the Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin, and the Holy See of the House of Cilicia.
Research activities focus on the Armenian Church, ecumenical church relations, Armenian Christian culture and tradition, Armenian Diaspora communities, and Armenian language and Christian minorities in Armenia. The department has already organized an international conference on
"Monastic Life in the Armenian Church" in Salzburg during this year. The center's website is actually under
construction.
