Օ­րերս մա­մու­լը հե­ղե­ղուե­ցաւ բրի­տա­նա­ցի յայտ­նի բնա­գէտ-տե­սա­բան, տիե­զե­րա­բան Սթիւըն Հաու­քին­կի մէկ յայ­տա­րա­րու­թեամբ, որ նշա­նա­ւոր գիտ­նա­կա­նը կա­տա­րած է Global Teacher Prize մրցա­նա­կա­բաշ­խու­թեան ար­դիւնք­նե­րուն հրա­պա­րակ­ման նուի­րուած իր ու­ղեր­ձին մէջ: BBC-ն, փո­խան­ցե­լով անգ­լիա­ցի գիտ­նա­կա­նին խօս­քը, նշած է, որ դեռ մա­նուկ հա­սա­կէն Սթի­ւըն Հաու­քին­կի վրայ մեծ ազ­դե­ցու­թիւն ու­նե­ցած է ա­նոր հայ ուսուցի­չը՝ Տիգ­րան Թահ­թա, ո­րու շնոր­հիւ ալ այ­սօր ար­դէն նշա­նա­ւոր բնա­գէտ գիտնականը սէր ու­նե­ցած է գի­տու­թեան նկատ­մամբ: Ա­հա­ւա­սիկ ինչ ը­սած է Սթի­ւըն Հաու­քինկ՝ իր հայ ու­սուց­չին մա­սին.

Սիրելի Գոհար, կ՚ուզենայի, շատ կ՚ուզենայի ահաւասիկ այս նամակը հասնէր քեզ, սակայն, աւաղ, այլեւս երբեք նամակ պիտի չստանաս (*): Այս է քո մեծագոյն զրկանքը:

Կը յիշե՞ս արդեօք մեր առաջին հանդիպումը. սակայն, նախ ուզում եմ յիշեցնել, թէ ինչպէս յայտնաբերեցինք Գոհար Մարկոսեանին:

1999 թուականի մարտ ամիսն էր, նամակ եմ ստանում Փարիզում այն ժամանակուայ «Յառաջ» օրաթերթի խմբագիր Արփի Թոթոյեանից. «Սիրելի Գոհար, անցեալ Կիրակի երեւանցի թատերագիրի մը մէկ գործը դիտեցինք Բարեգործականի սրահը: Շատ յաջող էր ու հետաքրքրական. կը կոչուէր "Յուշարձանը": Դիտողները ուզեցին գիտնալ, թէ ո՞վ է հեղինակը: Գոհար Մարկոսեան: Պարզուեցաւ, որ ոչ ոք բան մը գիտէր իր մասին: Թատրերգութիւնը հրատարակուած է 1989 "Սովետական արուեստ"-ներէն մէկուն մէջ: Մտածեցի, որ դուն կրնաս երկու տողով տեղեկացնել եթէ բան մը գիտես իր մասին: Թերեւս Երեւան չէ այլեւս, ո՞վ գիտէ:»

Retracing the Path of the Genocide, History Becomes Contemporary

With a hundred years now having passed after the start of the Armenian Genocide, the immediacy of the event has most obviously faded away. The generation of survivors of the Genocide is nearly all gone now from the earth, and even their children are elderly. Nonetheless, the story of the Genocide and the effect it has had on people’s lives still seems to resonate powerfully, and it seems the third generation, the grandchildren of survivors – the last generation in direct contact with these eyewitnesses, is now carrying the torch. The number of new books on the Genocide and its consequences which have been published over the past few years attests to this. Dawn Anahid MacKeen’s The Hundred-Year Walk: An Armenian Odyssey (Boston, NY: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2016) is one of the most recent ones.

March 8, a day to celebrate the achievements of women all across the world, is here. The United Nations (U.N.) recently declared this year’s theme as “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality.” As we celebrate this day and the women and girls in our lives, we must at the same time recognize and be more vocal about the rampant sexism and male domination that sets the foundation for gender inequality and discrimination in our homeland.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu gave a searing speech Feb. 27 on the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in the eastern province of Bingol. In his speech he accused the Kurds of taking advantage of the situation in the southeastern border towns of Sur and Silopi. "They are collaborating with Russia like the Armenian gangs used to do. They are opening a diplomatic mission in Moscow," he said.

Ex-U.S. Congressman Quits as Head of Azerbaijan Lobby Group

Former U.S. Representative Dan Burton this week resigned as head of a lobbying group founded by Azerbaijan tycoon Anar Mammadov to gain American support for country’s authoritarian government.

"As I have not heard from you or Anar, and have not been paid for a year, please consider this e-mail as a letter of resignation as Chairman of the Azerbaijan American Alliance," Burton wrote in a 1 March e-mail to James Fabiani, whose Washington-based firm lobbies for the group in the U.S., Radio Free Europe reported.

Tracing Family Roots: First-Ever Armenian Genealogy Conference to Be Held on April 9

The Armenian Genealogy Conference will take place April 9-10 in Watertown. The conference, which grew out of the Armenian Genealogy group on Facebook, will feature several speakers on various topics regarding Armenian genealogy, history, geography, and presentations on different organizations and initiatives.

George Aghjayan, a retired actuary and one of the conference organizers, noted that the study of Armenian genealogy has grown substantially over the last decade, and that organizing a conference was a necessary step. “Advances in technology have allowed access to information previously thought unattainable,” said Aghjayan, who hopes that the conference can become an annual event.

Հազիւ երեք տարի անցած է այն օրէն երբ ՀՅԴ հրաժարեցաւ Հայաստանի նախագահական ընտրութիւններուն մասնակցելէ, իրաւացիօրէն պատճառաբանելով արդար ընտրութիւններու անկարելիութիւնը։ Անկէ ետք ընտրական խարդախութիւններ տեղի ունեցան նաեւ անցեալ Դեկտեմբերին՝ Սահմանադրական փոփոխութիւններու հանրաքուէին ժամանակ։ Սակայն այս բոլորով հանդերձ ՀՅԴ գործակցութեան համաձայնագիր ստորագրեց նոյն այդ զեղծարարութիւնները իրագործող վարչակարգի ետին կանգնած կուսակցութեան հետ։

Դաշնակցութիւնը կը վերադառնայ համախոհական կառավարութեան դրութեան, զոր լքած էր 2009ին՝ հայ-թրքական արձանագրութիւններուն ստորագրութենէն ետք։ Այս առթիւ, լրագրող Սիրանոյշ Պապեան զրուցած է Հ. Յ. Դ. Հայաստանի Գերագոյն Մարմնի անդամ Լիլիթ Գալստեանի հետ։

Խօսքի ազատութեան եւ մամուլի սեղմումները, քաղաքացիներու նոյնիսկ ապրելու տարրական իրաւունքին դէմ իրականացուող բռնարարքները, հետզհետէ միահեծան, անսանձ տիրապետութիւն մը հաստատելու փորձերը արդէն իսկ բաւարար հիմքեր կը ստեղծէին ԱՔՓ-ն համեմատելի դարձնելու համար Իթթիհատ եւ Թերաքքիի հետ։ Տավութօղլուի այս յայտարարութիւնն ալ կու գայ ահա պսակելու այդ բոլորը եւ ա՛լ աւելի համարձակութիւն տալու անոնց, որոնք արդարօրէն ձախաւեր Իթթիհատ մը կը տեսնեն ԱՔՓ-ի մէջ։
